ALASKA BASIN BACKPACK
Thursday, Aug 8 through Sunday, Aug 11
This year’s summer backpacking trip will be to the Alaska Basin, in the Targhee National Forest in Idaho, just west of the Grand Teton National Park.
Detailed information about this trip is available on the club web site: www.gayhike.org, but to summarize: It is seven miles from the trailhead to the Alaska Basin and there is a 2500 foot elevation gain. The group will backpack into the basin on Thursday, spend Friday and Saturday on day hikes within the basin, and backpack out on Sunday.
This is not an easy trip, and you should not attempt it if you are in poor shape or if you have never backpacked. However, those who are in good enough shape to handle it will be rewarded by a wonderful wilderness experience in a region of spectacular scenery.
While group size is limited, there is still space available. For more information, or to register, visit the club web site at www.gayhike.com, or call Randy at 532-8447.
PLAN AHEAD FOR FUTURE WEEKEND TRIPS
Fri. Sept 27 - Sun Sept 29 Car Camp: San Rafael Swell. Club Treasurer Sy will
show us some of his favorite places in this spectacular but often overlooked region just three hours south of Salt Lake City.
I'm afraid this portion of the newsletter doesn't get read since we've had NO donations as of yet....hence, we had to cancel our annual summer BBQ. We've always had increasingly steady support from the community, please let us know what we can do differently to get your donation. Thanks!
