GOBLIN
VALLEY CAR CAMP
By David Vickery
Photos by Jim Ollett
On the week-end
before Halloween, fifteen dedicated LHC campers traveled to
Goblin Valley State Park. Friday night we were treated to a
rare desert rainstorm, fol-lowed by mud and partly cloudy skies
the following morning. We spent Saturday hiking among the
bizarre and beautiful rock form-ations of the park, returning in
the late afternoon to enjoy the hot showers provided at the park.
The highlight of the
trip was the annual awards pot luck dinner. There was
plenty of good stuff to eat, and after we had all eaten our fill,
club president Randy Burks presented the awards with his usual
panache. Some awards were serious, others were tongue in
cheek, but all were a lot of fun. Everyone on the camping
trip got some sort of an award complete with a certificate and a
gift.
After the awards were
given out, some of us set up Joes telescope and
searched the heavens. Our efforts were rewarded with
glimpses of Jupiter and four of its moons, and
Saturn complete with rings.
