10 Useful Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 7 Tips and Tricks You Should Know

The Mi Band 7, officially branded as Xiaomi Smart Band 7, has been available in the global market since the middle of this year. The Mi Band 7 is the 7th generation of Xiaomi’s incredibly popular fitness tracker. I’ve been using the Mi Band since the 4th model, upgrading to the latest model every year. I’ve been using the Mi Band 7 for about a week now. I can say this is Xiaomi’s finest fitness band to date. While I wouldn’t really recommend an upgrade from last year’s Mi Band 6, if you’re coming from the Mi Band 5 and older models or buying the Mi Band for the very first time, I totally recommend this model.

With that said, this article is for people who have purchased the Mi Band 7 before. Here, I’m going to highlight some of my favorite tips and tricks from this fitness band. These are mostly settings that I changed that you might want to enable. If you are looking to learn more about the features of the Mi band 7, I recommend that you read my article on the same subject but for the Mi Band 6 from last year. Very little has changed.

Alright, here are my top 10 Mi band 7 tips and tricks.

Check your training load

Mi Band 7 Workout Load

This feature borrows from some of the more premium activity bands such as the Fitbit charge 5. With this feature, the fitness band will help you know when it’s best to work out or take a break to give your body time to recover. The bracelet will calculate the corresponding training load according to the EPOC (excess oxygen consumption after exercise) that you have produced in the last 7 days in order to evaluate your training. You can adjust your next training program based on the zone your score is in. You can view your training load by going to training status which is accessible from the menu options.

Use the Pomodoro Timer for Focus

Mi Band 7 Pomodoro Timer

Pomodoro is a time management productivity technique that uses a timer to divide work into 25-minute intervals separated by short breaks. The Mi Band 7 comes with a Pomodoro Timer which Pomodoro focuses on work and study in a short time to boost work and study efficiency. Pomodoro typically takes 25 minutes per cycle. After you start, make sure you can work or study until the band vibrates to remind you to stop and take a 5-minute break.

It is recommended to take a long break of 15 to 20 minutes after 4 Pomodoro alerts. DND is automatically enabled when you turn on the Pomodoro Timer. You can access the Pomodoro timer by swiping up to reveal menu options, then more, then scroll down to this last option which is the Pomodoro timer.

Change your dial

Mi band 7 change watch faces

The watch face is definitely the face of your fitness band. It’s the first thing you see when the band is turned on. The primary information displayed is the time and date, but different watch face designs display different types of information including heart rate, steps, activity score, and more. So you can choose from over 100 watch face designs. To do this, you access the watch face store from the Xiaomi Mi Fitness app that you used to set up the band. Download your favorite watch faces, then from the band settings you can easily switch between the options already downloaded. So, to change your watch face, go to Settings, then Watch Face & Time, then select Watch Face. Scroll through a list of your downloaded watch face. Select your preference and set it.

Turn on the flashlight

Another great feature of the Mi Band 7 is a flashlight. This feature which debuted in the Mi Band 5 turns your entire screen to white, producing a bright white light. It’s not exactly as bright as your smartphone flashlight, but it’s good enough in dark environments, for example at night. You can access the Flashlight feature by swiping up to reveal the menu, then tapping More, then Flashlight.

Activate battery saving mode

Battery Saver Mode saves your Mi Band’s battery by only recording steps and basic sleep information. You can enable battery saving mode from settings. To access settings, from the home screen, swipe up to reveal menu options, scroll down to Settings, then Battery saver mode and turn it on/off.

Enable always-on display

Mi band 7 always displayed

You can now enable always-on display on your Mi band 7. I believe it was a software update as it was not available in previous generations. With the always-on display, the fitness bracelet works and looks exactly like a watch. The screen is always on. You can enable always-on display in settings. So swipe up to reveal the menu options, then scroll down to Settings, then Display & Brightness, then Always On. You can choose between having it all day or scheduled where you select specific times of the day or leaving it on Smart. Instead of having your watch face, you instead get this cool black and white screen that shows the time and date. Keep in mind that enabling this option will reduce battery life.

Turn off the screen

Do you know how to completely turn off the smartphone screen by pressing the power button? Well, you can do the same for the Mi Band 7, except the fitness tracker doesn’t have a physical button. So to turn off the screen, you just need to wave your hand over the fitness band. The screen will automatically go black. This is a useful feature when you want to preserve battery life. Keep in mind that this won’t work if always-on display is enabled.

Change group language

mi band 7 change language

The default language of the Xiaomi Mi band 7 global version is English. However, not everyone speaks English. So you can change the group language from English to Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, French among 15 others. To do this, swipe up to bring up the menu, then go to Settings, then Preferences, then change the language.

Enable training detection

When you enable this option, the band will remind you after detecting that the workout type you selected has been going on for a certain period of time. Keep in mind, however, that continuous workout monitoring will significantly reduce the battery life of your fitness tracker. To enable Workout Detection, go to Settings, then scroll down to Workout Detection.

Mi Band 7 factory reset

Mi Band 7 factory reset

Sometimes you may want to factory reset your Mi Band 7. Factory settings can be useful when you troubleshoot a problem, or want to give away or resell your device. So, to factory reset your Mi band 7, swipe up to show the menu, then scroll down to Settings, then System and scroll down to Factory Reset. You can also restart or turn off the fitness band from the same screen.

Enable all-day SpO₂ monitoring

Blood oxygen monitoring has been around since the Mi Band 6. However, it was on demand. That is, you only measured your Sp02 when you wanted to. However, the Mi Band 7 adds all-day blood oxygen saturation monitoring. I can’t think of any cases where this is exactly relevant unless you’re hospitalized or performing physical activity where monitoring your oxygen levels in real time is important. I can think of hiking in the mountains maybe. The Xiaomi Smart Band 7 will vibrate to alert you if your blood oxygen level is too low (

Well that’s all. My honorable mentions would be enabling continuous heart rate monitoring. Again, this will significantly reduce battery life. So unless you’re doing an activity that requires real-time heart rate monitoring, I wouldn’t really turn it on. Then you can also configure app notifications so that you can receive notifications from your phone directly on your fitness bracelet. If you have anything interesting that I might have left out, let me know in the comments below.
