The colorful character, who added to his already huge fanbase with some kind performances on breakfast TV this year, was recently back on the ITV This Morning couch, discussing how to get the best deals on a stay.
While chatting with fellow Northerner Vernon Kay and co-host Rochelle Humes, Dave urged viewers to head north for their summer vacation.
He said: “It’s all about location, you could save a fortune and head north. We have wonderful locations – Scotland, Lake District, Blackpool, Morecambe, Burnley…”
Dave, who made his fortune selling Colne minibuses and now lives in the Ribble Valley, then offered a host of tips on how to save money while on holiday.
“Look for discounted activities. Many restaurants offer early bird menus.
“Another secret is to book direct. Call the hotel and ask to speak to the manager or owner as they will decide where you can get it cheaper. Make friends before you go, these are just words. You you can get things like free places for kids, free breakfast, you might even get a free glass of wine,” he added.

Dave also advised booking hotels within a few miles of popular resorts, sharing cabins with friends where possible, and using public transport.
“I recently went to Pendle Council and asked how much it cost for a weekly bus pass – £16.50, hop on the bus as much as you can, up to Pendle Hill on the other side, Clitheroe.”
He also joked that you should pack “beef batter butties and prawn cocktail crisps” on walks, while offering advice on stay transport.
“You can get train deals or local car rentals. Ask for a slightly older car. As long as it goes back and forth, you’re living the dream. Don’t go to the big names. Go local, use- or lose it.
“Budget your vacation. You don’t want to get to the end of the week and not have enough money for chip tea on a Friday. Very important.”
