The Allegheny National Forest Chapter of the North Country Trail Association will host the annual Allegheny 100 (A-100) Hiking Challenge June 10-12, 2022.
The A-100 is not a race, but an individual challenge of endurance, determination and resilience.
Hikers can choose to complete 100 miles, 75 miles, 50 miles, or 25 miles in 50 hours. This challenge is for anyone of any skill level who wants to test themselves on the track. Everyone should “do their own hike”, move at their own pace and rest if necessary. A-100 is an unsupported hike so no first aid or water points. Hikers are responsible for providing their own food, drink and equipment. It should be noted that cell phone reception is spotty along the trail.
The adventure covers a 100-mile stretch of the North Country National Scenic Trail in the Allegheny National Forest. Hikers will climb hills and cross many beautiful stream valleys lined with hemlocks. This year, hikers will travel from the PA Route 346 trailhead, near Willow Bay, to the PA Route 66 trailhead, between Marienville and Vowinckel, Pennsylvania.
A lottery will be organized to obtain a pre-registration place. Pre-registered people will receive a shuttle service to the start of the hike from their end point and a t-shirt. You can submit your lottery entry starting Monday, March 7.
