Indian Flag Raising, Mount Tom Hike, American Legion Fundraising

(WGGB/WSHM) – City by City takes us to Agawam, Springfield and Holyoke.

A special flag raising was held at Springfield City Hall on Monday. The event was meant to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno joined the Indian Association of Greater Springfield and local business promoters Dinesh Patel and Vid Mitta for the ceremony. This is the first time the Indian flag has been hoisted at City Hall

At the Agawam American Legion, State Senator John Velis announced that Post 185 would receive $50,000 in funding.

We’re told the funding was included in Massachusetts’ fiscal year 2023 budget that was passed by the Senate and House and signed into law by Governor Charlie Baker.

The amendment to the budget, tabled by Velis, will go towards upgrading and improving the existing building at post 185.

In Holyoke, a senior hike took place at Mount Tom on Monday morning. Seniors were able to participate in an easy one-hour hike.

On Tuesday there will be a junior ranger ride for children aged seven to nine. This event is the first of a four week program and children will enjoy crafts, exploring the mountain and playing games.
